How to brew Hibiscus Tea
This simple hibiscus tea made from dried hibiscus flowers and water is perfect for the winter. To make this hibiscus beverage, begin by taking 3-4 flowers for each cup of tea. If you want to use fresh hibiscus flowers from your garden, you will have to pick them up and dry the petals before making your tea. You steep dry hibiscus petals in boiling hot water for several minutes to brew your tea (and chill to iced tea), and this method allows you to taste the full flavour of the hibiscus.
To make a concentrate, place three cups of distilled cold water on top of the flowers. Add the remaining three cups of water to the concentrate in a large, glass serving jug. Place the big tea ball in a glass bowl and fill with water.
Add the basil, strawberries, and lime juice to the water, then cover. At this point, you can add additional herbs as well, or you can add basil, lemongrass, lemon zest, etc. Let the tea steep for 15-20 minutes.
Add the water and hibiscus leaves to the big pot and cover it. Now strain the mixture and add cold water, sugar, or honey, and your cold hibiscus tea is done.
Since cold water takes more time to develop and infuse flavors, you will want to steep your iced hibiscus tea for eight to 12 hours before serving. Chill hibiscus iced tea thoroughly: After your tea has brewed in hot water, you will want to place it in the fridge to chill. You can leave a wide bowl exposed, or you can add plastic wrap to keep the bits from spoiling the iced hibiscus tea as it steeps.
